Chosen song and lyrics

I have gone with my initial idea of using The Asteroid Galaxy Tour, and their song 'Push The Envelope'.

It is a pop song, which is a genre I wanted to experiment with due to the continuous and significant beat, and opportunity for some dance routines.

This is the song and lyrics:

Anyway you're OK, I'm away to the day when you wont pray for a better day.
Never say stay wide awake, be always late, for devils sake smile when you're afraid
In the gray, be a slave, everyday, create a wave, create your own fate
But you will fail, (...) lack the will, you'll be chasing your tail.

Push the envelope, wild child, come on x2
Come on x3
Now
Come on x3

Single mind, wastin' time, doin' fine most of the time, sure you walk the line
Make it shine, for the dime but always shines left behind there's no better crime
You will climb, until you find you sat in grime sublime, (...)
But you decline, to the blind, I'll stay alive yeah ! I know you know that you're divine.

Push the envelope, wild child, come on x15

Sometimes you feel like you're running around in the clouds,
Sometimes you feel like you're living your life wasting time,
Oh you're so true yet so blue ~ is it all in your mind?
Tell me, amaze me, seduce me, you still make it mine.

Push the envelope, wild child, come on x4

Group filming and editing practise

To improve our ease of shooting music video's, over the last few weeks we have been picking songs to then re-create our own video's for. This has helped us to become familiar with the difficulties of lip-syncing and the timing issues coming with that.

We have also tried several genres, giving us the opportunity to explore with the conventions typical of this style.

We have only been able to shoot these within school so have been slightly limited in terms of location and time

Braxtons- Slow The Flow (Hip-Hop)

Lionel Ritchie- Easy (Ballad)

Carly-Rae Jepson- Call Me Maybe (Pop)

Christmas Medley- (Christmas)

POTENTIAL TRACK FOR MUSIC VIDEO

I like the sounds from the band Asteroid Galaxy Tour. The strong pop female vocals give it a funky edge, and I can imagine someone in my video strutting confidently to the beat of their song called 'Push the Envelope'.

BECOMING FAMILIAR WITH ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

Recently we have been exploring with the different techniques on Adobe Photoshop. These could then influence our digipak idea's and be used in order to promote our bands and their music videos.

We first learnt something fairly simple, which was superimposing an image:

We explored with rotoscoping for a more animated style:

We then focused on font, creating text clipping masks in order to emphasise certain words:

So far I have found using Adobe Photoshop quite challenging, but all comes with practise!

Brief Video Analysis

Artist and Title
Visual
Pace

The Pharcyde
Drop
Directed by Spike Jonze

4 men walking around a city landscape, but their movements are put in reverse, so demonstrates them jumping, walking, rolling and dancing but backwards. All done in only 3-4 shots, usually featuring all the 4 men.

The smooth pace of the track suits the level yet bouncy movements made by the band. The rhythm is echoed in their walking through the town, as the beat is repetitive. Due to the retrograde the lip syncing was a bit off, but didn’t detract any attention or look odd.

OK Go
Here it goes again
Directed by Trish Sie

8 treadmills and the 4 band members who are dancing and moving from and between the different treadmills interacting and using one another to get around the machines. The mise-en-scene is particularly DIY styled and the tacky looking ‘bodge job’ room and slightly off centre camera gives the video even more authenticity.

The choreography goes to the beat of the track and the jumps and slides accentuate some of the rhythms.

Metronomy
The Bay
Directed by David Wilson

Shows 80’s era with costume, ice lolly. Makes Torquay look glamorous i.e Monte Carlo. Girls and band coming in and out of frame stood in different formations.

Subtle dance routines matching the beat with the split screens and camera angles following the rhythm in the track and making it look polished and pristine.
