How I think my video followed conventions of other pop videos

Azealia Banks sings against a brick wall in her video for '212', and i think this worked really well, so wanted to use it in my video:

Cher Lloyd's video for 'With Your Love' also features her walking down the street with two female friends, with her singing in the middle- This influenced my use of the 3 girls friendship in my video:

The brief car park scene was something I took from the Black Eyed Peas video for 'Pump It', though it it not underground in my video, I like the uncomfortable and dangerous atmosphere the lighting conveys. I also like the use of fast cuts and changes in scenes in this video, and this influenced my video hugely:

How I think the costume influence worked

For Alys' costume, I wanted her to stand out as looking more relaxed and bohemian, when juxtaposed to the other girls. I took this look for influences such as Joss stone and Shakira:

For Helens Costume I wanted something far more feminine and girly, this was a more fitted dress, with a floral pattern. This was influenced by Taylor Swift:

For Becca's costume I wanted all 3 of her outfits to be quite punky, and not necessarily associated with being female. Such as the Bob Marley T-shirt and Doc Martens. This is taken from artists which are in the pop industry (like the genre of the track), or rock. Such as Taylor Momsen, Pink, Rihanna and Selena Gomez.

Evaluation Question 3

After getting other students to watch my music video I then asked some of them to give me some feedback on what they liked, and thought I could improve. From the feedback I got, they liked the quick cuts which happened often, saying it was typical of pop videos, along with the use of the dance routine, and change of locations. Although in order to improve, they suggested that I could have used more of a variety of shots, by getting more footage when filming as some of it was repeated a lot. It was also suggested that if I was to do it again I would film in more locations- doing this would then give my shots more variety.

POSTER

In order to complete promoting our music video, we had to make a poster which would go with our digipak in advertising the single to the public. I have chosen to use the same picture from the front of my digipak, with the shot of the feet in the motion of walking. Due to not seeing the face of the walking legs, it gives an air of curiosity and makes a potential listener want to find out more, as well as representing the beat in which the singer walks to in my video, and with several legs showing the space in which she covers within her change of locations.

DIGIPAK

I have finished my digipak, for my music video's song. I wanted the digipak to reflect the urban settings in which my music video takes place, and focus on the legs which are used alot in the video to maintain the beat in the singers walking. I have stuck with the overlapping leg idea which I had in mind a while ago for the cover as I think it suits the pop genre. I have chosen the empty car park for the back as it was one of the settings we filmed at, and conveys the 'wild child' image well, a lyric repeated often in the track. The fact it is at the back and empty shows that the singer dissrupts her locations and leaves them feeling very empty.

Distribution company for my band

SonyMusic.pngBMG official logo.jpgAsteroid Galaxy Tour are owned by the music company 'BMG', which are linked with Sony Music Entertainment. Due to managing other pop artists such as, Anastacia, Blondie, MGMT and the Rizzle Kicks, I think this is an ideal distribution company for the genre of my chosen band.

DIGI PAK COVER

I took a picture of the model walking on shutter/sports mode, so it would show gradual walking.

Using the quick selection tool, I then i had to cut out only the legs and arms in these shots, to then drag and place over the original picture- giving the impression of the same person walking.

After using the quick selection tool to cut out the legs and place on to the original, i then had to do the same with the shadows left by the feet on the original shots in order for the walking to look more realistic.

This will be the complete image I use for the front of my digipak, and maybe promo poster:

More filming!

Yesterday I filmed with all 3 of the girls in my video. This gave me the opportunity to film the remaining scenes at the beach, in the car park and in the supermarket aisles. By having 3 actors, with the lead always positioned in the middle (Becca) gave more of an independant, confident and feminine feel to the music video:

By filming in a dingey car park connoted their strong and quite urban personalities, and with the song repeating the phrase 'wild child', had to show this element of wildness. This was also achieved by using a supermarket aisle to dance in, as it is quite contreversial, and echoes the fun they get up to!

A location which also conveys this idea of being a 'Wild Child', was something which we accidently, but fortunately came across when at the beach. It was a construction site, as they were tearing down an old building. I got footage of the girls wearing hard hats (which we borrowed from the builders), infront of the building site walking towards the camera, making it look like they were constructing the mess, and walking away:

Filming on thursday

On thursday I managed to do some successful filming with Becca (the main character) in the street and in the forest. Luckily it was a sunny afternoon so my footage in the forest has a nice spring feel to it (suiting the pop genre)

We used 2 different costumes in the different locations, this is typical of a female pop song.

In order to check that the weather was going to be suitable for filming, and that there would be no chance of rain I checked BBC weather the night before: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/

Equipment

I will be using a Nikon d3100 to film my video, i will need a Monopod and Tripod to hold the camera smoothly.

Costume

Becca's (Main singer) Costume:

To fit the indie pop genre of the song, becca's costume will be indie, but with some colour and fitted items.

Helen's Costume:

Helen's costume will be the most feminine, with a floaty dress.

Alys' Costume:

Alys's costume will be very hippy and boho, and incorporate a denim jacket.

Locations

I want my music video to show Helen (singer) walking through several different locations, showing the strong beat encouraging her to walk. Throughout the different locations her costume will change and Alys and Becca will come in and out of the shots. Here are some ideas I have to film at:

A quiet supermarket aisle:

This location will be very fun and upbeat, fitting the genre, and has been used in music videos such as Rihanna 'We found love'.

Beach:

Southbourne beach will give a complete juxtaposed effect to the supermarket, and look nice and relaxed.

Forest:

Again, this location will be completely different to others that the actors will be in.

Street:
I will most likely use Ringwood highstreet, as it will be quite  busy, and this will show the contrast that the actors have to the ordinary people.

Car Park:
I lie the idea of an empty car, as it shows a varse amount of space and has been done in pop music videos such as Black Eyed Peas (Pump it)
